Top-ranked Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.
The 27-year-old captured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Statistics
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She received nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
