It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
