"Everyone experienced great experiences with Billups and how he coached," Tiago remarked. "We're thinking of him and his family but we have a job to do."
League Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events
Speaking about the detentions for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the past few days.
"Nothing is more critical to the league and supporters than the fairness of the competition," he told a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."
The commissioner further mentioned an NBA investigation into Rozier's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he participated for the Charlotte Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.
"We were informed by the authorities and the gambling firms," he continued.
"We then looked into the matter and were very transparent about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, found no evidence.
"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.
"So, we've been cooperating from that point. Naturally, what they announced recently was an indictment.
"And 30 months after, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Rozier.
"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
