Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
